2-18-20 SHORT HILLS: The next batch of pix is also from the Keoladeo National Park. These are mostly waterbirds and waders from the walkways and from the boat trip.

Glossy Ibis.

Great Egret were plentiful, an old friend from home.

Gray Heron.

White-breasted Waterhen.

Eurasian Moorhen.

Eurasion Coot. These were everywhere.

Northern Pintail and cow. It's India, cows are anywhere including swamps.

Painted Stork. They were pretty common.

This Peacock was on the ground when we stopped to look, and he jumped up on that branch and preened facing us and....

then turned around to show his tail.

India Bird Pix I.

2-17-20 SHORT HILLS: Leaping ahead to the present, I will do posts about the birds of Northern India that we saw. I started to pick pix and realized that there are a lot of birds, so I will do at least two posts of birds.

Bird ID's were from our guides and from Merlin Bird ID, a great iPhone app created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that I have used on many trips.

I thought about grouping the pix by categories such as raptors or water birds, but decided to just present them as they appeared and got photographed. Some pix are better than others, and some birds we saw didn’t sit still long enough for a photo.


House Crow at Claridges in Delhi.

Black Kite, immature, and adult flying. They are everywhere, raptors, but mostly scavengers.

Common Myna.

Yellow-Footed Green Pigeon and striped squirrel.

Rose-ringed Parakeet, we saw these everywhere, this one is in Delhi. Females lack the neck ring.

On the road to Agra at a rest stop, Red-Vented Bulbul.

Wooly-necked stork.

Sarus Crane. The biggest bird that can still fly.

Indian Pond Heron, immature, at the hotel in Agra.

Female Parakeet, in a typical nesting site.

Bank Myna. The previous Myna above had yellow beak and eye ring.

White Pelican at the river by the Taj. There were a lot of other waterbirds here, but I got better pix later.
