"Something Rotten"

7-10-15 SHORT HILLS: We were in the city, NYC, last night for diner and a show. We usually go in very early to appease the tunnel gods and avoid those occasional two hours delays that make you late for everything. As is often the case, we were 45 minutes early for the dinner rez, so we walked around and ended up at Bryant Park. It’s on 42nd between 5th and 6th and occupies the space behind the NY Public Library. There are a bunch of watering holes around the periphery, a fountain, a carousel and a big lawn in the center. Lots of people were getting pix taken by the statue of William Cullen B.

We had an early dinner at Aureole on 42nd just east of Times Square and were both pleased with the meal. We ogled the crowds in T-Square after dinner midst all the Disney animals, Spidermen, Batmen, Sponge Bobs, and bare, painted, naked ladies, naked except for hats, guitars and/or fanny packs. Lots more pix were taken.

The show was Something Rotten at the St. James Theatre. It has gotten awards and good reviews. It is very funny with references to dozens of past musicals and lots of Shakespeare’s characters and lines. We were in first row mezzanine, which is now my favorite place to sit. Behind us was a huge group of teens, who loved everything and applauded with abandon. I took pix of and for several of them posed before the stage at intermission.

As we left the theatre, there was a torrential rainstorm that had been predicted, and which was why Judy was packing umbrellas.

Truly funny.

Bryant Park.

Bryant Park carousel.

Times Square, Broadway ped mall, swarming with cartoon characters and other street performers...

...who do not have to be tipped....

...even the naked lady.

44th St. and St. James Theatre.
